The Department of English and Linguistics at the University of
Sri Jayewardenepura is committed to the promotion of English
Literature, English Language and Linguistics with the view to
creating graduates of the highest caliber who will contribute to
the development of English Language, Literature and Linguistics
in the country in particular and the world in general.
The Department of English and Linguistics offers three Special Degree programs:
1. Bachelor of Arts in English [BA in English (Special) and (General) Degree Programs]
2. Bachelor of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (BA in TESL Special Degree Program)
3. Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology
The Bachelor of Arts in English offers the undergraduates the
opportunity of reading for a Special Degree in English if they
meet the required entry criteria after their first year examination.
Those who do not meet the entry criteria can read for the
Bachelor of Arts General Degree.
Bachelor of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
is only offered as a Special Degree and undergraduates who fail
to meet the entry criteria to follow the TESL degree after their
first year examination have the opportunity to read for the BA in
English General Degree
