Course Aim/ Intended Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this course student will be able to;
- construct simple conversations in everyday communication
- express one’s ideas, arguments in Chinese
- respond to the daily conversations with Chinese people
- use various learning strategies to learn Chinese vocabulary and grammar
- listen and understand basic Chinese dialogues and texts
- read simple Chinese dialogues/ texts and understand
- write basic dialogues, simple essays & texts
- understand basic writing rules and techniques in formal Chinese writing

At the completion of this course student will be able to;
- analyze different areas in the history of Chinese language
- demonstrate the evolution of Chinese language
- understand the general historical development of Chinese characters
- demonstrate the ability to identify different forms of Chinese characters
- develop personalized strategies of learning and memorizing Chinese characters and be able to use these strategies to master Chinese character writing system in an academic and systematic way
- have a good understanding of characteristics of the classical Chinese literary genres

- recognize different sentence patterns
- explain the word formation in Chinese
- identity errors and discuss error correction
- display knowledge on most frequently used Chinese characters and usage of standard Chinese language
- deal with daily communication on given topics using correct sentence structures related to culture and lifestyle.
- understand intermediate syntactic structures of Chinese and apply them in Chinese writing.
